convergence! (a contest)

if you've been reading closely, or have seen me lately—i'm hard to miss—you might know that i'm eight months pregnant.

when my publisher and i originally discussed dates and timelines for the release of the cookbook, we sketched out a loose timeline that would see my cookbook entering the world at least six weeks before my child.

and then i was nauseated for a full month of my first trimester, and couldn't come up with recipes, let alone cook them, so we extended testing for a few weeks. and then we had things like family vacations, animal rights conferences, vegfests, gatherings, and magazine deadlines that pushed us back a little further. and then it turns out that the printer who can do the whole book in a week charges a whole lot more than the printer who takes three weeks, for the same quality of work.

and here we are: it's the beginning of november; the parenting website that i check every few days chirps at me today: "only 37 days to go!" but we all know that babies don't have calendars on the walls of the womb, so that kid could show up any day now, or not until mid-december.

so here is my question to you: which is coming first, the baby or the book?

you have one full week from today to leave your guess in the comments section.

when we know for sure which of our much-anticipated packages arrives first, i'll randomly (really and truly random, i might employ a cat paw) choose one of the correct guesses and send you a free copy of the cookbook.

Baby, it'll be the baby-creature first.
The book-creature will be stubborn and slow to arrive. (One can determine this by swinging a charm above the manuscript, and if it makes an oval, it'll be a slow-to-print book.) If it is close, I bet Fed-Ex will slow the book down enough for the baby to win.
