thanksgiving
what's on your thanksgiving menu this year?
thanksgiving is a week before my estimated due date, so this year, if i'm not in labor, i'll be taking it easy at home with my honey. by "taking it easy," i mean that i'm making only five dishes, not ten.
i'm definitely making: - green bean casserole - roasted garlic mashed potatoes and roasted roots from my cookbook - ciabatta or focaccia bread - a green salad with a maple walnut dressing, candied walnuts, dried cranberries, and figs
i haven't decided yet what to make for dessert, but i bet it will involve pumpkin.
i might also make my friend julie hasson's delicious smoky pumpkin hummus with crostini as an appetizer, which she demo'ed today at the vegan holiday festival.
no turkey-shaped fake meat product shall ever darken my door. no thanks. i don't know a single vegetarian who misses turkey at the holidays. let's be honest: it's the most boring thing on the thanksgiving table. i'd rather prepare something mindblowingly delicious, wouldn't you?
portland pals of mine, feel free to come over! there will be lots of food.
what are you serving? include links if you can (or pimp cookbooks! that's awesome, too!) and someone, tell me the dessert i absolutely have to make!

i'm still looking for a group of more than two to feed. hopefully a potluck will spring up.
- i know i have to make cranberry sauce! http://veganyumyum.com/2007/10/jellied-cranberry-sauce/
- and some garlic kale
- something with squash
- and monkey bread. i can't find it online, but you put all this melted EB and herbs in a bundt pan and let some frozen yeast rolls thaw over it, then bake it.
dessert: i've been dying for apple strudel.
ps. no luck on rss for me so far. :/
I'm cooking for Woodstock Farm Sanctuary and so far I am on cranberry sauce and chickpea cutlet duty. That's the Sunday before t-giving, though. I feel like I'm going to end up with my moms at the movies on the actual day.
isa: i have a feeling you're going to be on chickpea cutlet duty for the rest of your life. you're dr. frankenstein. at least your monster is beautiful and delicious.
i'm thinking you need to make the cranberry caramel and almond tarts from smitten kitchen...

they look good to me, but alas, no pumpkin.

oh and jen, i love monkey bread! and i haven't made it in YEARS, but i did bookmark this the other day:
monkey bread mold.
thanks, williams-sonoma, for yet another niche product that i'm totally craving despite the fact that i'll only use it once a year, max.
kittee: i saw that link in your deli.cio.us! have you made it yet? i wanna know how it turns out. i have bad luck with tarts!
I made monkey bread not so long ago on my blog - just use whatever you want as the filling.

carla, that looks beautiful! i'm totally making your recipe next time. thanks.
Dessert wise: you must make LEMON ROSEMARY POUND CAKE.
Srsly. Take any old pound cake recipe and instead of vanilla, use a similar amount of lemon extract, the zest of one lemon, and a good amount (like five or six stalks worth) of fresh rosemary, chopped up in the food processor. It sounds questionable, but I made it recently and people fought over it.
I made that green bean casserole for our early Thanksgiving, it's really good. I'll probably make it again, but the night before and then reheat it the next day with the topping.
I'm making a vegetable roast -- seasoned fall veggies roasted in the oven (red potato, butternut, green beans, raddishes) served with whole fresh cranberries on top. Mashed sweet potatoes and faux-sausage stuffing... plus the fat-free pumpkin pie.
check on friday for photos
